BCO Performs LCCMF Commissioned Work by Alistair Coleman
LCCMF COMMISSIONS ALISTAIR COLEMAN: MICRO-CONCERTO FOR SOOVIN KIM AND BCO
Alistair Coleman and Soovin Kim with members of the BCO.
As part of our 10th anniversary, we celebrated our Young Composers Seminar by commissioning 3 alums of the program to write concert pieces. Alistair Coleman, a student at Juilliard, wrote a micro-concerto for LCCMF Co-Artistic Director Soovin Kim and the Burlington Chamber Orchestra, which received its world premiere at the BCO concert on Saturday February 2, at the UVM Recital Hall. The piece, Moonshot, was motivated by the three works by 20th century American artist On Kawara, which seem to reference the historic 1969 moon landing. In two sections, Alistair’s piece first reflects the chaos of the Saturn rocket launch, and then reflects the peace and tranquility of space. Yutaka Kono led the orchestra comprised of local musicians in an outstanding performance.
