This concert features composers at the height of their maturity utilizing their masterful skill in different ways. The dazzling energy of Petroushkatesby 2011 and 2016 LCCMF Guest Composer Joan Tower is countered by Haydn’s graceful F-sharp minor trio. The evening’s most intriguing work is Henry Cowell’s eclectic Set of Five that incorporates gongs, Indian tablas, porcelain bowls, and plucked piano into a tuneful collection of musical styles from around the world.
