Inside Pitch 1: Struggles in Silence
August 24, 2021 @ 10:00 am

The father of Czech music, Bedřich Smetana was at the center of Prague musical culture and politics. He suffered bouts of depression and anxiety in part as a result of the psychological pain of hearing loss and the occurrence of multiple personal tragedies. In
Struggles in Silence, David Serkin Ludwig, LCCMF resident composer, will explore two works by Smetana: the piano trio written after the death of his eldest daughter; and the string quartet
From My Life, an autobiographical reflection that musically describes his struggle with hearing loss.
