In Depth: Illuminated with Valerie Coleman

Trailblazing composer and flutist Valerie Coleman has emerged as one of the most important voices in the music world today.  Among her numerous recent awards and honors, she became the first living woman African-American composer to be performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra.  She kicks off the 2022 LCCMF with stories of the music, composers, and experiences that shape her work to this day.

In Depth: Uncovered with the Catalyst Quartet

The Catalyst Quartet has devoted itself to diversity, education, and contemporary works. They recently released the second album of their remarkable Uncovered project that celebrates composers who have been overlooked because of their race or gender. During this hour, Soovin Kim talks to members of the Catalyst about their passion for these works, and the process of recording them with producer Alan Bise.
