While innovation is essential to keep an art form dynamic and alive, great traditions also continue to define classical music. Bach already established such a pinnacle of human achievement with harmony, counterpoint, and proportion by the early 1700s, and Beethoven with structure in the early 1800s. The way old masters used those musical elements clearly touches something deep within all of us, and we continue to learn from their lessons.

During our 9th summer festival, Lineage, we will hear from legendary performers such as pianist Leon Fleisher and violinist Jaime Laredo about how performance traditions from the 19th-century were passed to them and have evolved during their lifetimes. And, we will explore the way today’s composers such as George Crumb, David Ludwig, Augusta Read Thomas, and Marc Neikrug integrate traditions with the unique ways in which they continue to develop our art form.

Lineage is our chance to reflect upon our roots as well as appreciate the new life that is continually emerging and flourishing.

The Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival opened its 2015 season with two performances that reveal it as an important festival on the national scene...Emblematic of how far this young festival has come in its short life, the Brahms Horn Trio in E-flat Major, Opus 40, was given a substantial inspired performance, as fine as anyone is likely to hear anywhere, anytime.
— Jim Lowe, Times-Argus
Soovin Kim has opened the equivalent of a luxury hotel on Lake Champlain, the newest link in a chain of elite chamber music institutions ... All of this (the week’s programming) created the atmosphere of a true festival, not just a concert series, and constituted a great musical gift to the community.
