Student musicians perform for members of the Kafka Quartet and festival artists during a morning extravaganza of violin, viola, and cello masterclasses. The audience can wander from room to room and observe the teachers working with students in short, focused lessons.

INDEPTH: Schubert’s Lieder: A Fusion of Music and Poetry with
Michael Parloff
Franz Schubert’s uncanny sensitivity to literary nuance allowed him to reveal and transform the meaning of the poetry he set to music. Returning lecturer Michael Parloff will explore Schubert’s musical illumination of selected poems from Wilhelm Müller’s A Winter Journey.

Schubert and Schumann, two of the greatest composers of art song, were at the center of our 2014 festival, Poetry in Music. The opening recital of this year’s festival promises to be an afternoon full of love, longing, and heartbreak!

MAINSTAGE CONCERT Sounds of the Wind

The first Sunday concert evokes memories of our 2015 festival, Sounds of the Wind. Our cast of legendary wind players are featured throughout the program. A chamber version of Richard Strauss’s comical symphonic tone poem kicks off the concert, and the afternoon is capped with Beethoven’s exuberant Septet that was among the most popular works during his lifetime.
