This summer’s festival, Poetry in Music, was a special week centered on Art Song — one of the treasures of the chamber music repertoire. Composers such as Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann wrote some of their most beautiful melodies to the words of poets such as Wilhelm Müller and Heinrich Heine. We experienced the sublime nature of these songs and explored the nuances of their French, German, Russian, and English texts. Living composers discussed their process of creating musical structures for the poetry, setting the words to music. Larger chamber works without voice by musical poets such as W.A. Mozart, Johannes Brahms, and Maurice Ravel  anchored the week’s programs.

Poetry in Music was a deeply moving and fascinating LCCMF week!

Soovin Kim has opened the equivalent of a luxury hotel
on Lake Champlain, the newest link in a chain of elite chamber music institutions ... All of this (the week’s programming) created the atmosphere of a true festival,
not just a concert series, and constituted a great musical gift to the community.
